What I Have To Do

These eyes are looking up and me.
They keep getting wiser and wiser.
Showing me all the things
I knew I never knew.
I still where this placid smile
though. I don't mind
being made the fool.
You have so much telling and you
haven't learned a word. You are a coming sage
and I wouldn't doubt your worth.
Those eyes of yours keeping looking up and me and we have more places yet to drive.
I keep looking in the rear view mirror when I should be looking
straight ahead. There is so much wisdom left
in those big eyes of yours they hold me up and
make me bright. I never asked for that from
you but your gift it comes so naturally.
So I plaster that smile on my face and I walk down the
street humming a little tune. Something that keeps me
smiling when it began to rain. I don't mind
this smile, I don't mind being dumb.
I know what I have to do.
